The Reverend Fannye B. Walker

The Reverend Fannye Brooker Walker is the middle child of five children born to George and Beaulah Booker in Macon, Georgia, and was raised in a very religious home by grandparents Sarah and Jack Gibson and a very dedicated aunt, Rosa Jinks. Fannye attended community Sunday Schools and, as a teenager, was baptized at the Macedonia Baptist Church. There she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and participated in Missionary outreach programs. She graduated from a religious High School as Valedictorian and Beda-Eta Business College. Employed by the Booker T. Washington Community Center Outreach Programs, she was recruited by the U.S. Naval Department Bureau of Aeronautics and moved to Washington where she met and married the man of her life, John L. Walker. On to Brooklyn, they joined the Living Stone Baptist Church where she served as Youth Superintendent, Church Musician, Deaconess and President of the Queen Ester Missionary Society. In 1967, she received a Bachelor of Theology Degree from American Divinity College. In 1968, she assisted her husband John in establishing the St. Mark Mission in the basement of their home. In 1971 they co-founded St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church. Most of the first children have grown up to become educated, spiritual leaders and great assets to the communities.

In 1982, Fannye earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work from York College (CUNY), received several honors and was listed in Who’s Who in National Universities and Colleges of America. She offered rehabilitation counseling and referrals for adults and children and set up a community rap session for teens and young adults. She has worked at Astoria Supportive Services, Builders for Family and Youth, the Catholic Diocese of NY, St. Christopher’s Home of Brooklyn and Mission of the Immaculate Virgin, Mt. Loretto, Staten Island.

Ordained in 1986 she began serving as Co-Pastor of St. Mark Church. In 1990, she earned a Master of Science Degree from St. John University and attended the Queens Federation of Churches, she has also served as an Advisory Board Member of the Carver Federal Savings Bank, Pastoral Counselor for North Shore Hospital (HIP), Counselor and Member of the Free Women in Christ Conference, Merrick Park Baptist Church, Secretary of the Board of Directors South Ozone Park Senior Citizens Association, Member of the Social Action Committee of the Baptist Ministers Conference of Queens and Vicinity, the Women Christian Conference, and a Lifetime Member of the NAACP of Jamaica.

Rev. Fannye B. Walker also has three sons: Ronald, John Jr., and Paul, 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Her motto: “To God be the Glory for great things he has done. He picked up the broken pieces of my life and made me whole.” God continues to richly bless her life and ministry.
