About Rev. John L. Walker, Sr.

The Reverend John L. Walker, Sr., was born the eldest of two boys (John & Edgar) to the late Deaconess Harriet W. Grady and the Late John L. Grady. Born and reared in Wilmington, N.C., his mother was a faithful member of the Central Baptist Church where she carried the boys from infancy. At fourteen, John accepted Christ and began his service through teaching Sunday School, serving on the Junior Usher Board, Junior Choir and the Baptist Young Peoples’ Training Union. In 1944, he graduated from Williston High School and worked at the Local Shipyard painting Liberty vessels. In 1945, he migrated to Harlem, NY, and that same year he moved to Brooklyn, NY and joined the Concord Baptist Church where he also served on the Junior Usher Board and Junior Choir.

While serving in the U.S. Army, stationed at Ft. Belvoir, VA, he met and married Fannye Brooker. Out of this union came four boys: Ronald, John Jr., Marc, and Paul. Upon their return to NY, John worked as a member of Local 3 Electrical Union and worked for Illumination Products Industry while studying to become a Journeyman at night. In 1954, John received his certification from Brooklyn Evening Technical School. While on the job he met his life long friend the Late Rev. Theodore Jackson, who would later become Assistant Pastor of the St. Mark Church. Later, John and Fannye joined the Living Stone Baptist Church of Brooklyn, NY, where he served as President of the Men Fellowship, President of the Men Usher Board, Secretary of the Deacon Board, Superintendent of the Sunday School and the Assistant to the Pastor, The Rev. Dr. Ernest J. Middleton.

In 1964, John and Fannye joined the Merrick Park Baptist Church of Jamaica to facilitate the founding of the St. Mark Baptist Mission. In 1971, John was ordained by the Rev. Curtis G. Norton, and The Merrick Park Baptist Church. After three years of growth of the mission, they established the St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church. For a few years the Church occupied the first floor and basement of the Pastor’s home. Because of the continued growth of the church the Pastor and his wife purchased the building in which they now reside, for the church. Seven years later after further growth, the church moved to its present location.

About Elder Debora Williams

In February 2001 this Prayer Line Ministry was funded by a visionary, a woman of God, a woman of integrity and determination, Elder Debora E. Williams. When Elder Debora answered the call of God to birth this ministry, she felt compelled to carry out the mandate God has given her to encourage new believers as well as mature Christians to develop a Disciplined Prayer Life. Elder Debora has a desire to live a life worthy of the call God has on her life. God has blessed Evangelist Debora with the ability to set the tone for this Prayer Line which gives a clear understanding of the Word of God and the Power of Prayer.

Our Prayer Line Ministry is composed of men, women and young adults who have a strong desire to draw closer to God through Prayer. We feel we have an on-going responsibility to pray for the needs of all people all over the World which includes: our sick and shut-in, those who are in hospitals, nursing homes and prisons. This ministry prays daily for our country, the President and his family, our Governors, Mayors, and all those who are in place to guide and lead our country. We pray for our Pastors, Elders, Spiritual Leaders, our children, schools, homes and our jobs. We also pray for our families, those who know God, that they draw closer to Him, and those who don’t know God, that they come to know who Him.

Elder Debora was licensed in February 2006 by Bishop Lester L. Williams, Community Church of Church, Jamaica, New York and Ordained in March 2012 by Pastor Owen E. Williams, St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Jamaica, New York.

A message from Elder Debora:

SUPPORT

In these difficult times that we find ourselves traveling through, where our eyes and ears see and hear the sufferings of so many from heartbreaking losses, where Grief, Discouragement, Depression and Doubt has taken root in the lives of millions. We asked ourselves "how can I help? What can I do? The Lords answer to us is simple "Love the Lord thy God with all your heart, soul and mind" and "Love your neighbor as yourself". Beloved small acts of kindness towards the stranger is all that is needed to begin to rebuild the community, the church and the person. 1 Peter 3:8 "Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. God bless you and thank you for your sacrificial gift.
